The world has changed much since the ’80′s.  The old school Nickleodon shows that I watched as a child would be considered fluff for the kids of today.  One bright Sunday morning, as I flipped through the television channels I took a glimpst at something called  “DeGrassi: The Next Generation.”

Being that it was a Sunday, I was hoping that this show would be something simple like “Saved by the Bell.”   However, that would be huge understatement.  This show is heavy/moving/intense/etc.  I could rave on and on but that would be circles.  Some of the “issues” that the students at DeGrassi have faced are much like what some High School kids face today, except that the students at DeGrassi are much more self-aware than real life kids.

Over the course of a month, or 10 episodes during the mini marathon these kids have faced death, stupid parents, abortions, and those are the mild problems.  Whooooooaaaaaaaaaa. How can this be used in teaching–?

Find out in Part Two of Chester and DeGrassi.
